Asheville School at Cherokee
Records: Asheville School (2-0); Cherokee (1-1)
Last Week: Asheville School won 42-0 over Greenville Home School; Cherokee had a bye
Last Year: Cherokee won 34-0
Notes: These two teams have met only twice in the last 13 years with Cherokee winning both games, 34-0 in 2017 and 56-44 in 2005. But Asheville School looks to have its best chance against a Braves team that is missing key pieces from last year's state title run. The Blues have been impressive in their first two wins, in large part due to a key offseason addition in Chris Hemphill. The former East Henderson standout has rushed for 204 yards on only eight carries with three touchdowns while adding 81 yards from the quarterback position. Junior Connor Davis still holds the starting spot under center, completing 11-of-19 passes for 220 yards. Uchenna Ikwuakor has also added 121 yards on the ground while Luke Mitchell leads the team with four receptions and 102 yards. Cherokee was able to bounce back from a Week 1 loss to North Buncombe, defeated Choctaw Central 27-6 in Week 2. After a bye in Week 3, the Braves look to prove they can repeat as state champions with a big statement win over Asheville School. The offensive pieces are there in running back Isaiah Evans (155 yards) and junior receiver Chris Mintz (234 yards, 14 receptions). Junior quarterback Bobby Crowe continues to improve, and has completed 17-of-38 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns. Cherokee allowed a running quarterback in North Buncombe's Caden Higgins to have a huge night in Week 1. Will that problem plague them again against Hemphill?
