No one was buying what Malik Brown was selling this past January. But that's OK. He knew what was real.

"I told everyone it was going to be Ohio State," he said. "I called it. Wasn't anyone who believed."

Ohio State, of course, won the first College Football Playoff after controversially being selected as the final seed over two Big 12 teams.

For the past two seasons at Jack Britt, Brown tried to sell everyone on the fact he could be the next big thing at running back. That belief fell on deaf ears as well, according to him. That led to his move to Trinity Christian for his junior season, where he's expected to be a key cog in the Crusaders' goal of returning to the playoffs.

Trinity Christian coach Chuck Webster wasted no time installing Brown into the running back rotation. But what was more important to Webster was that Brown fit in with the philosophy and personality of his new team.

"We're still getting to know him and vice versa," Webster said. "I don't know the details as far as the previous relationship with the other school. That didn't matter to me. I just tried to explain to him what I'm about and what we feel is important, which is pretty universal, I would think.

"The kid has a strong personality and I understand that," Webster added. "But he just has to understand what his place is and trust in what we're doing so we can move forward."

Brown said his goal for now is to improve his footwork. Long-term, he expects to be able to sign anywhere for college after his two years with the Crusaders.

As for his overall style?

"If there's a hole, I'm going to hit it," he said. "If someone's in my way ."

He smirked and shrugged his shoulders, insinuating that would-be tackler was going to have a bad day.

Believe it.
