Providence Day stuns Charlotte Christian with late rally

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Chad Grier's tenure at Providence Day is off to a great start thanks to late-game heroics from sophomore running back Chris Peal.
The No. 1 Chargers justified their top ranking with a stunning come-from-behind victory on the road at No. 2 Charlotte Christian on Friday night.
The Chargers' balanced offensive attack outdid an impressive effort from standout Charlotte Christian running back Henry Rutledge.
The Chargers started the game on a high note with an opening drive rushing touchdown by J. Rutledge answered for the Knights with a six-yard score to level things up.
A 44-yard field goal by Jake Porter and a rushing score from Nickel Fields gave the Chargers a 17-7 lead in the second quarter.
The Knights were able to get close before halftime with a three-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Matthew Tuomala, who made a great play outside of structure after his initial rollout didn't result in anything open.
On the second play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Rutledge dashed an impressive 67 yards to give the Knights a 21-17 lead.
Chip Kasay scored later on to tack on an insurance touchdown as the Charlotte Christian defense had a strong stretch of being able to stifle the Chargers.
The Chargers finally got going again when quarterback Jake Helfrich uncorked a perfect pass to Thomas Flynn for a 65-yard touchdown pass on a streak route.
The Chargers were able to get the ball back after a successful stand on defense.
After driving down to the Charlotte Christian 32 with help from a penalty, the sophomore speedster Peal made the play of the game, breaking multiple tackles and pulling away from defenders for the go-ahead touchdown.
The Knights had two chances in the final seconds from the Providence Day 25-yard line, but a pair of incompletions ended the game and handed the Chargers the crucial win.
