St. David's impresses in 42-18 win over Fayetteville Christian

By Joel Bryant, HighSchoolOT reporter

RALEIGH, N.C. — No. 13 St. David's School made a statement with its 42-18 win over No. 14 Fayetteville Christian School on Friday night. The Warriors from Raleigh are now 3-0, while the Warriors from Fayetteville now stand at 3-1 after the loss.

The
top 15 matchup never really felt in reach for Fayetteville Christian. St. David's led 20-6 at halftime despite abandoning its offensive strength in the first half.

In the second half, St. David's leaned on what makes this iteration of the team so potent: it's three lead ball carriers.

On it's first drive of the second half, St. David's leaned on its power back Ford Everett. The 6-foot, 210 pound rusher plowed into the end zone from 11 yards out. All but one carry on that drive went to Everett.

The 2-point try failed, so St. David's led 26-6 with 8:52 left in the third.

St. David’s scores on an 11-yard run by Ford Everett. 2pt. try was no good. Warriors lead Fayetteville Christian 26-6 with 8:52 left in the 3Q.

Fayetteville Christian put together a great response on its next drive. Brian Thompson zoomed into the end zone from 49 yards out within two minutes of the St. David's score. Thompson, normally just a basketball player, has been a great addition to Fayetteville Christian's football team this year. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving St. David's with a 26-12 lead with 7:02 left in the penultimate quarter.

Later in the third, Cole Deihl scored on a 20-yard rush for St. David's and found the end zone for the 2-point conversion right after. St. David's now had a 34-12 lead with 3:48 left in the third.

It appeared that Fayetteville Christian was going to have a great opportunity to hit back. Joseph Soriano of FCS had a nice kickoff return off of an onside kick attempt by St. David's. However, the Fayetteville Christian couldn't take advantage of the field position and ended up turning the ball over on downs.

St. David's led 34-12 going into the fourth quarter.

Each team scored once more in the contest.

St. David’s QB Paxton Williams found Meik Goode for a 44 yard touchdown pass with 4:41 left in the game. The play came on 3rd and 16. The 2-point try was good and that is how St. David's arrived at its final score of 42 points.

With 1:49 left, David Herden scored on a short QB keeper for Fayetteville Christian the point after try was blocked.

Fayetteville Christian School will travel to John Paull II Catholic next Friday to take on the Saints. St. David's School will be on the road at Cary Christian.
