SEVEN SPRINGS -- Injury-riddled Spring Creek surrendered 21 fourth-quarter points and dropped a 30-19, non-conference decision to Wake Christian in "The Swamp" on Friday evening.
"We've played two really good football teams the last weeks," SC head coach Aaron Sanders said. "We've got two guys out. We just have to get our stuff together because I know we can put a really good product on the field."
Sophomore quarterback Landon Smothers threw for 224 yards and distributed three touchdown passes to different receivers. He tossed a 52-yard scoring strike to Najee Young in the first quarter, hooked up with Jamerion Dawson from 25 yards out in the second quarter and found Jessie Casper for a short 6-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
Smothers finished with 22 completions and three picks in 37 attempts. The first-year starter has thrown at least one touchdown pass in all four games this season.
Dawson reeled in a season-high 10 passes for 114 yards. Young finished with 92 yards receiving and Casper had 16. Smothers also completed a pass to Collion Kittrell.
JaVon Newsome led the Gators' ground attack with 34 yards.
Xavion Garcia emerged as SC's defensive leader with six stops, two assists and one hit behind the line of scrimmage. Casper and Spencer Jameson combined for 10 tackles and six assists.
Brandon Wood-Potter logged four tackles, two assists and two tackles for loss.
Spring Creek (1-3 overall) is the guest of Chocowinity Southside next Friday.
