Bucknell forward John Meeks, a 2017 alum of The Burlington School, was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for men’s basketball Tuesday after averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a weekend sweep of league foe Lehigh.

Meeks, the 2016-17 Times-News All-Region Player of the Year, notched career-highs of 31 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in Bucknell’s 77-61 victory against Lehigh on Sunday. The day prior, he posted 12 points and four rebounds in a 75-70 victory.

The 6-foot-6, 224-pound senior made his season debut in the two-game series after sitting out Bucknell’s first four games with an injury. The Patriot League Player of the Week award is the first of his career.

In Sunday’s career-best game, Meeks became just the fifth player in Bucknell history to score at least 30 points against Lehigh, his 31 points tied for the 14th-most a Bison player has ever scored in a road game in school history. Meeks scored 20 of his points in the first half, then provided all five of his assists in the second half. He finished the game 11-for-20 shooting, including a 4-for-8 mark from 3-point distance.
