The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team announced this week the hiring of a new assistant coach. Head coach Greg Clifton and athletic director Aaron Denton have hired Chris Corbett as an assistant coach. Corbett, 25, will work primarily with catchers and hitters, and will also take on the role of the head JV coach beginning in the 2020-21 season.
“We are excited to have Chris as part of the Bishop baseball family,” Clifton said. “I feel he will be a great asset to our group.
Along with varsity duties and recruiting, he will also be the Head JV Coach.” After graduating from Rollins College (Fla.) in 2017, Corbett went on to play in the San Francisco Giants organization as a catcher from 2017-2020. He was drafted by the Giants in the 18th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
While in college, Corbett earned the sportsmanship award in 2017. He was also a team captain his senior year. The High Point native is excited to join the Bishops.
“I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to coach at N.C. Wesleyan,” Corbett said. “I look forward to developing these young men both on and off the field under the leadership of Coach Clifton. The Bishop baseball program has a rich tradition, and I look forward to upholding the standard of excellence set by the coaches and players who came before me
