Millbrook’s Eric Van Der Heijden commits to Louisville

After quickly became one of the hottest prospects in the state during his junior season, Millbrook’s Eric Van Der Heijden is headed out of state to play in the ACC.
Van Der Heijden took to his personal YouTube page Friday and announced to the world that he will be committing to Louisville.
The 6-8 wing started the 2019-2020 campaign under the radar, but his game started drawing interest from major conference programs after a strong performance at the John Wall Holiday Invitational. One by one the offers started to roll in.
His first big offer after the tournament came from Ole Miss. After that offers from all over the country started to roll in. Van Der Heijden picked Louisville over Iowa, Wake Forest, Texas, Clemson and Maryland, among others.
Before the commitment from Van Der Heijden the Cardinals had the No. 2 recruiting class in the ACC in the class of 2021 and were ranked No. 6 nationally.
With the addition of Van Der Heijden, Louisville coach Chris Mack has now swooped into North Carolina and snatched three commitments from local players. Van Der Heijden will join Durham’s El Ellie, a 6-3 guard who played two seasons at Tallahassee Community College and 6-1 guard Bobby Pettiford from South Granville.
Last season, his first at Millbrook, Van Der Heijden averaged 12.1 points per game, helping the Wildcats finish 23-4 overall. It was after a strong showing against nationally ranked Montverde Academy in the John Wall Holiday Invitational that the offers started to roll in.
A three-star recruit, Van Der Heijden is ranked as the No. 7 player in the state according to 247Sports.com.
