For those who question the validity of private vs public school baseball, look no further than Reid Johnston, former Rocky Mount Academy star. Reid was a six year starter for the Eagles while at RMA led NC State to a 10-4 win over Stanford in the College World Series Saturday in Omaha, Neb. Reid was the winning pitcher going 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) striking out five and walking only one. The Wolfpack have two other NCISAA players on their roster, Cooper King of Carmel Christian & John Miralia of Providence.
Reid’s parents, Todd & Katherine Johnston also have NCISAA ties. Both are Enfield Academy graduates, with Todd playing football and basketball and Katherine, a star basketball player, who was the point guard on the Patriots’ 1986 state championship squad. She is still involved in NCISAA sports as the girls basketball coach at Rocky Mount Academy
