GREENSBORO DAY’S JOHNSON HONORED:
Greensboro Day’s
Freddy Johnson
has been awarded the Charles N. Carter
Athletic Director Cup by the N.C. Indepen-
dent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA).
The award recognizes outstanding dedica-
tion to the NCISAA, local conferences and
individual schools.
Johnson has served as AD at Greensboro
Day School for 37 years, in addition to
coaching and teaching responsibilities. He
holds the North Carolina high school record
for most wins by a basketball coach with
more than 930, and his teams have won two
NCISAA girls tennis championships, eight
NCISAA boys basketball championships, 22
PACIS conference championships. Johnson
has won 20 coach of the year awards and
coached in multiple national all-star games.
He has been inducted to the Guilford County
Sports Hall of Fame and the Greensboro
College Athletics Hall of Fame and received
the Greensboro College Alumni Excellence
Award in 2008
