On September 10th, Freedom Christian Academy Interim Head of School, TW Webb, made the bitter-sweet announcement that Head of Basketball Operations and Varsity Boys Basketball Coach, Dan Pruessner is departing his post. Pruessner has accepted the position of Associate Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball team at Eastern University in St. David’s Pennsylvania. We are excited for Coach Pruessner and his family as they transition to this new role.

Pruessner spent 4 seasons patrolling the sidelines at Freedom with a W/L record of 81-47 (.633%). Under his direction the Patriots won two consecutive conference titles (2014-15 & 2015-16) and had one Final Four appearance (2015-16). Additionally, 11 future collegiate players came through Pruessner’s program before moving on to the next phases of their playing careers.

Taking the reins as new head coach for Freedom this season is Mr. Anquell McCollum. McCollum, a former standout SG graduated from EE Smith. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University, where he was a varsity letter winner for the men’s basketball team from 1992-1996. He was named Conference Player of the Year in 1996 among a number of other accolades. McCollum would go on to play professionally from 1996-2000 in international leagues.

McCollum has been Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for his alma mater since 2004 where he has been intimately involved in all aspects of that program from recruiting, promoting and scouting to aiding the team in obtaining NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Award for four years in a row. Additionally, McCollum has continued to guide WCU Men’s Basketball team to winning seasons that include the teams only 20+ winning season (22-12 Mark) since transitioning to the NCAA Division 1 level, set a Ramsey Center record, 11 home winning games from 2008 to 2009, and catapulted that record to 14 at home games in 2010.
