Greensboro Day gets payback

GREENSBORO Two weeks ago, only a week removed from upsetting nationally-ranked Wesleyan Christian Academy,
Greensboro Day fell 53-51 at Davidson Day. This time, Greensboro Day cruised to a 66-40 victory over the visiting
Patriots at Dillard Gymnasium.
Peter Agba led the Bengals (30-2, 8-2 PACIS) with 17 points, including six straight points at the end of the second quarter
for a 33-19 halftime lead.
¡§I think, defensively, we stepped it up in the second quarter and played really good defense on them,¡¨ Bengals coach Freddy Johnson said. ¡§They¡¦ve got two really good offensive guards. Also, down there we couldn¡¦t get anybody on the bench. We had guys with foul trouble, but we couldn¡¦t get them out of the game. And I think by going to our bench (tonight), our bench is better.¡¨
The Bengals weren¡¦t completely immune from foul difficulties Friday night. Senior point guard Darius Moore sat for considerable stretches, picking up his third and fourth fouls in the third quarter. Greensboro Day didn¡¦t miss a beat, however,as the Bengals¡¦ bench came through.
¡§Pearce Landry, Jordan Perkins and Will Dillard at that guard position ¡X we didn¡¦t miss a beat,¡¨ Johnson said. ¡§Peter had
a great game and Trevor Mayo had a good game, so I think all of our players had a good game.¡¨
Johnson¡¦s reasoning for the Bengals earlier loss to Davidson Day was a bit of an oxymoron: his team sped
up the pace but showed patience on offense.
¡§When we played down there, they did a great job of forcing us to take shots we didn¡¦t want to take,¡¨ he
said. ¡§Tonight, I thought we were a little more patient. The key is we ran tonight. Over there, we didn¡¦t run ¡X they kept us from running and forced us into a halfcourt game. Tonight, we just played well.¡¨
