A pair of Gaston Christian’s top players on the hardwood recently made the college intentions known.
Gaston Christian senior guard Marley Gordon committed last week to play at Davidson Community College in Thomasville. Prior to that, teammate Michael Peters announced his plans to continue his basketball career at Brevard College.
Standing 6-1 and weighing 160 pounds, Gordon was a four-year letterman for the Eagles.
After averaging 5.5 points and 3.6 assists his freshman year, the local standout almost doubled his scoring output the following year (10.9 points). Averaging almost 25 minutes per contest, Gordon’s production leapt to 13.5 points and 4.3 assists per contest his junior year. This past season, he led Gaston Christian with 16.8 points and five assists.
While Gordon was a mainstay in the Eagles’ lineup during his four-year tenure, Peters blossomed this past season. A 6-6, 185-pound forward, he averaged a career high 16 points and 7.5 rebounds as a senior.
Gaston Christian finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 12-15 record. The Eagles earned a NCISAA Class 3A playoff berth, winning two games before bowing out in the quarterfinal round to Village Christian Academy
