Gaston Day two-sport standout makes college plans official
At times, she made the business of hard work look easy.
No matter whether it was the basketball court, track or the classroom, Portia Shouse had the same goal - dominate.
And now, such hard work and determination has earned her the opportunity to excel at the next level.
A two-sport standout at Gaston Day School, Shouse signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Eastern University, located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania.
She is expected to play women’s basketball and run track for the school.
On the basketball court, Shouse was key in Gaston Day making consecutive NCISAA Class 2A Final Four appearances. She averaged 10.1 points and 6.5 rebounds the past three seasons for the Spartans.
The Gaston Day standout saved her best for last, averaging 14 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game en route to being named to the all-Metrolina Athletic Conference team.
Due to the current coronavirus outbreak, her high school track and field career was cut short. However, she does leave as a state champion, winning a 2019 NCISAA Division III championship in the 200-meter dash.
