Charlotte forward Molina Williams, an alum of The Burlington School and the 2019-20 Times-News All-Region Player of the Year, was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for women’s basketball, the league announced Monday.
Williams started both games last week against Old Dominion, averaging 9.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in a two-game sweep.
The accolade marks the third time this season a former player from The Burlington School has won a weekly conference award in college basketball. Bucknell’s John Meeks has twice been selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week for men’s basketball.
Wednesday at Old Dominion, Williams posted nine points and a career-best and team-high 17 rebounds in Charlotte’s 102-95 victory in double overtime. As a team, the 49ers pulled down 70 rebounds, the third-most in program history. The team’s 43 defensive rebounds, 12 of which came from Williams, were a program record.
