Freedom girls roll

The boys’ win followed a loss for the Eagle girls at the hands of crosstown opponent Freedom Christian.

The 10th-seeded Patriots’ 58-40 win was an upset in seeding only, as Freedom had won both of the teams’ regular-season meetings.

Forward Simona Antonova scored a game-high 24 points, including four 3-point goals. Freedom’s fullcourt matchup defense smothered the Eagles (16-10) early, allowing the Patriots to jump out to an 18-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Patriots worked up a fourth-quarter push led by Lachyna Mack, who scored eight of her 14 points in the fi- nal frame, to cruise to the win. Kate Perko led the Eagles with 12 points.

The Patriots (12-9) will travel to No. 2 Davidson Day (22-3) for the state quarterfinal round Saturday.
