Carolina Day standout commits to Division I program
Carolina Day junior Annabelle Schultz has committed to play Division I basketball.
Schultz will play for Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.
Schultz, a standout multi-sport athlete at Carolina Day, was an NCISAA All-State performer and a Citizen-Times All-Western North Carolina first-team selection for the 2017-18 season. In addition to these high honors, Annabelle was also a member of the Carolina’s Athletic Association (CAA) All-Conference team.
Schultz, a 5’9” multi-purpose player for the Wildcats, has been an instrumental part of Carolina Day’s recent North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) State Championship efforts.
The Wildcats won its eighth straight title this February.
“Annabelle’s achievements with our girls’ basketball program speak for themselves and are a result of countless hours of preparation and practice," Carolina Day athletic director Steve Henry said. "However, in the age of sports specialization, and the debate associated with this topic, it is refreshing to see the high-level athlete engage across multiple disciplines. In Annabelle’s case, she’s been a member of our track program, cross-country team, and most recently is suiting up for our field hockey team. She is a special student-athlete.”
Annabelle said the decision to commit to Wofford’s women’s basketball program was an easy one.
“Just as college coaches have their checklist on what they are looking for in a student-athlete, so did I," she said. "Wofford fulfilled all my boxes. I fell in love with the feel of the campus and the people, from the students to the facility. Wofford is a lot like Carolina Day in a sense that it is very community and family oriented. It is a great academic school."
