The girls basketball coaches at Charlotte Latin School and Davidson Day have resigned.
▪ At Charlotte Latin, Charisse Mapp has resigned her position as coach but plans to remain at the school through the end of the current academic year, where she teaches physical education.
Mapp joined the staff at Latin in 2011 as junior varsity coach and varsity assistant. She took over the varsity team in 2013 and has a career record of 101-78. Her teams won back-to-back CISAA conference championships in the 2017-2018 season, when the Hawks tied with Providence Day, and in 2018-19.
Latin was 11-14 this season.
“We are very grateful for Coach Mapp’s commitment to the girls’ basketball program and physical education department throughout her years at Charlotte Latin,” Hawks athletic director David Gatoux said. “Her contributions to the athletics department, her care for her colleagues, and her dedication to Latin’s student-athletes will be missed.”
The school will begin a national search for a replacement immediately.
▪ Davidson Day athletic director Ron Johnson said girls basketball coach Al Wilson will not return next season. Johnson said the school will begin the search for a replacement immediately.
In an email to his school population Johnson wrote: “Despite the departure of many players from (the) winning 2018–2019 team, Coach Wilson led our varsity girls team to its second consecutive state championship. Throughout, Coach Wilson demonstrated competent and capable leadership, rallying the Patriots from a tough start to the season to their one-point victory to win the State Championship in February.”
Davidson Day was 19-13 last season and has had eight straight winning seasons. The Patriots’ next coach, however, will be its third since the start of the 2014-15 season.
