Covenant Day’s new basketball coach comes from rival Charlotte Latin
BY LANGSTON WERTZ JR.

Terence Jordan is Covenant Day’s new girls basketball coach.

He comes to the school after working at rival Charlotte Latin as head junior varsity and assistant varsity coach for the past six seasons. Covenant Day and Latin play in the same conference.

“I am excited to welcome coach Jordan to the Covenant Day School community,” said Sherry Kapelar, Covenant Day athletic director. “Coach Jordan has a deep commitment to his faith and his family, and he brings the same commitment to his coaching roles.”

While at Latin, Jordan led the Hawks JV to back-to-back conference championships in 2017-18, along with a runner-up finish in 2019. The Hawks’ varsity won a league title in the 2018-19 season and made the N.C. Independent Schools Final Four in 2018.

Jordan was also head coach and math teacher at Porter Ridge High before he started at Charlotte Latin. He holds a BS in Sports Management from State University of New York College at Cortland. He has a masters’ in secondary education from Appalachian State.

Jordan has taught eighth grade math/business teacher at Matthews Charter. He’s been there since 2018.

“Players describe him as leading with patience and encouragement,” Kapelar said, “while exhibiting a highly motivational personality. These qualities will be essential as he builds a girls basketball program at Covenant Day School. I look forward to many years of serving alongside Coach Terence Jordan and watching the success of his players as members of our community and as student-athletes.”
