Gillis to Fordham
Carolina Day senior Halei Gillis has committed to play college basketball for Fordham.
As a junior, Gillis earned NCISAA 2-A all-state, All-Carolinas Athletic Association and Citizen-Times All-WNC honors. The center averaged 11.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and three blocks per game for the six-time defending NCISAA 2-A champion Wildcats (28-2).
Gillis plays AAU ball for the WNC Lady Royals.

Two years and four months after being told by Doctors at Duke Medical Center that she would not be returning to basketball, Halei Gillis, a senior at Carolina Day School, has committed to play Division 1 college ball. Gillis verbally committed to Fordham University in New York City, NY today with a photo to coaches saying “New York is my Campus. Fordham is my school”. The Rams are coached by Stephanie Gaitley and play in the A10 Conference.
Gillis had narrowed her choices down to three over the past few weeks with follow up “official” visits to James Madison University, Hofstra University and Fordham University. Gillis had received several Division 1 offers since her return in the summer of 2015 and been on over a dozen unofficial visits since Sept of last year.
The 6’4” senior has played with the six time state champion Wildcats since 8th grade. She has been named to the NCISAA All State, Asheville Citizen-Times All-WNC, All-Carolinas Athletic Association, All Conference teams. She has played AAU with the WNC Lady Royals and been coached by Joe Carrington, Bill Parker and Jennie West.
Gillis is a two- time state champ in Discus and runner up in Shotput with the Wildcats and was on the WNC track honor roll throughout the spring. She was also named to the ACT -All WNC Track Team.
Gillis is the Daughter of Marcie Dicus and Harry Gillis of Asheville, NC and her brothers are Ethan (Rabun Gap) and Evan Gillis (Reynolds).
