KINSTON — After two tough losses to open the season, the Greenfield School varsity boys basketball team freely introduced its preferred element of pushing the ball up the floor Tuesday, resulting in a swift 87-39 victory over Kinston Bethel Christian.
Greenfield (1-2) of the Coastal Plain Independents Conference picked up 29 points, seven rebounds and four assists from junior Coby White.
The Knights led 20-10 after one quarter and took firm control with a second quarter that saw them lead 52-21 at the half.
Octavious Lacey added 16 points, while senior Mike Maldanado came off the bench to provide 12. Junior guard Elijah McCadden added 11 for the fourth Greenfield player to finish in double figures.
“I think we showed we could get the ball up the court passing rather than dribbling,” Greenfield head coach Rob Salter said. “We pressed tonight for the first time and it got us running a little bit. We did some good things tonight.”
Bethel Christian, a member of the North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A ranks, tumbled to 2-3.
The Knights visit Raleigh Ravenscroft on Thursday.
