Knights lock down Cape Fear, 77-68

A stellar defensive effort helped the host Greenfield varsity boys basketball team overcome a shaky start offensively as the Knights delivered a 77-68 defeat to Cape Fear Academy of Wilmington on Friday.

Their fourth straight win pushed the Knights’ record to 5-1 while Hurricanes departed 3-2.

“In the first half, we were bad offensively,” Knights head coach Rob Salter said. “Our dribbling was bad and our spacing was terrible. But I think this was the best defense we’ve played.”

Senior Creighton Lebo led Greenfield with 21 points, including 3-of-4 accuracy from 3-point range as the Knights connected on 10 treys. Senior Dji Bailey tossed in 14 points to go with eight assists and six rebounds while senior Collin Guilford bucketed 18 points and classmate Trey Pittman added 12.

Emmanuel Bonsu’s 19 points led the Hurricanes.

Greenfield concludes its four-game homestand Tuesday against Grace Christian on Sanford.
