Greenfield opens season by doubling up Epiphany
The Greenfield School varsity boys soccer team opened defense of its North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A championship Thursday night with an 8-4 victory over Epiphany in the Dr. Robert T. Stone Memorial Showcase on Forbes Field.
Greenfield, under the direction of head coach Justin Wilkinson, stormed to a 6-1 halftime lead behind four goals from junior Porter Wells, who added an assist. Eighth grader Landyn Coolbaugh had a hat trick and three assists for the 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference Knights.
Junior Nathan Lozevski added a goal, while eighth grader Noah Wright supplied a pair of assists.
In goal, junior Nick Wester collected four saves.
Epiphany, a 2-A member of the split 1-A/2-A Coastal Independents Conference, dropped its season opener.
Greenfield plays its second of three matches in the event Friday versus Sanford Grace Christian.
