Greenfield’s Stone named MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Month
Coming off a North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A state championship in boys soccer, Greenfield School sophomore Jackson Stone was honored as the national MaxPreps High School Male Athlete of the Month for October during a ceremony in the Greenfield gym Monday.
Stone, who supplied 17 goals and 24 assists for the Knights en route to the first NCISAA 1-A state championship in the tenure of head coach Randol Mendoza, was nominated by Mendoza for the award, which is presented by the United States Marine Corps. Also in attendance as a speaker was Thomas Rongen, a former Major League Soccer head coach and head of the United States U-20 national team from 2001-05 and 2006-11. Outside of soccer, Stone participates in basketball and baseball and owns a 4.57 weighted grade point average. The son of Lisa and Russell Stone of Wilson plays for the Wilson Youth Soccer Association ‘01 Explosion in addition to the North Carolina Youth Soccer Development Program.
In its first year of the award, MaxPreps selects one male and female athlete as recipients on a monthly basis.
