New face to North Carolina: 2021 6’5 Tyler Lundblade (Greensboro Day)

We introduced you to one new face that will be coming to North Carolina and most recently, a new name from Texas will be looking to make a name for himself in the HoopState. 2021 6’5 Tyler Lundblade heads to Greensboro Day to play for Coach Freddy Johnson, giving the Bengals a new scoring threat.
This past year, Lundblade averaged 28.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, earning District 1-5A MVP, 1st team All-State, and Academic All-State at Grapevine Faith Christian School and now will be looking to take his game and recruitment to another level.
Once he announced, Phenom Hoops was able to get in touch to learn more about what he looks to bring to GDS and North Carolina. Here is what Lundblade had to say:
PHR: What makes you excited about heading to Greensboro Day?
Lundblade: The step up in competition, not only playing against other great teams but playing with great players. Obviously, play for Coach Freddy is an amazing opportunity in itself, and I’m also excited to experience something new in Greensboro. I’ve been in Texas my whole life, so it will be a new adventure for myself and my family.
PHR: What are they thinking you can provide to the team and how would you best describe your game on the court?
Lundblade: They think I can bring more size and length on the perimeter, playmaking, and really fill some of the gaps from the guys graduating in the 2020 class. I would describe my game as very well rounded. I can score from deep and get to the rim, and I am extremely comfortable in the mid-range. I also believe my passing and IQ are some of my strengths as well.
PHR: What position do you primarily look to play?
Lundblade: I’m 6’5 and I am primarily a shooting guard but I played point guard for my high school team last year. I can play 1-3.
PHR: What are you focusing on this offseason as far as improvement in your game?
Lundblade: A lot of off the ball work. At GDS and in college, the ball won’t be in my hands all the time. So a lot of running off down screens, flare screens, and cross screens into shots, along with more pick and roll situations. I’m focusing on making my game more efficient.
PHR: How would you best describe your game?
Lundblade: Well rounded and efficient. I pride myself on not having to take 20 shots to get 20 or 30 to get 30. I can score form the perimeter, rim, and mid-range, and I can do it on the ball or off the ball. I can also facilitate and find open teammates.
PHR: What has your recruitment been like early on?
Lundblade: I’ve been hearing from a lot of schools including Virginia, Liberty, UTSA, Colorado State, Loyola-Chicago, Utah State, and Princeton.
PHR: What have they all been saying they like about your game?
Lundblade: My ability to stretch and hit shots from deep but also put the ball on the floor and make plays.
