HP Christian splits with Grace Christian

HIGH POINT — High Point Christian tried to keep pace, but Grace Christian’s size was too much to overcome.The Cougars fell behind double digits in the second quarter and again in the third but rallied to within reach late before falling against the Eagles 81-68 in NCISAA nonconference boys basketball Tuesday night at HPCA.
In the girls game, the Cougars started fast and, thanks to strong overall play throughout, raced away to beat Grace Christian 66-23.
Landon Sutton scored 23 points to lead the HPCA boys (10-9), who trailed by 12 in the second before cutting their deficit to 35-31 at halftime and fell behind 13 early in the third. KJ Garrett added 17 points while Evan Toland followed with nine points — all on 3-pointers — as the Cougars made 13 3s for the game.
The Cougars, trailing by 10 heading to the fourth and 12 on the opening score of the quarter, got within five three times — with 5:06 left, with 4:10 and finally with 2:12 left. But Grace Christian, with a huge size advantage, kept getting scores to extend its lead back out — including on its final nine of the game.
