HIGH POINT — Top-seeded High Point Christian Academy stands one win away from the first NCISAA Div. III 11-man state football championship in school history.

The Cougars turned back fifth-seeded Rabun Gap for a 20-7 victory on Friday night at the High Point Athletic Complex.

Drew Smith returned a blocked field goal 96 yards for a touchdown to give HPCA a 7-0 first-quarter lead it would not relinquish.

De’Shaun Taylor connected with Dre Davis for a 57-yard TD pass and Lance Boykin added a 10-yard scoring run for the Cougars (10-1).

Rabun Gap finished 7-5.HPCA hosts second-seedted Wake Christian Academy and sixth-seed for the state title on Friday.

HPCA’s Copeland Petitfils recorded 11 tackles and two sacks, while Greg Streater and Zach Britton had eight tackles each. Streater registered a sack.

Taylor completed 8 of 16 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown.
