HPCA 2, PROVIDENCE DAY 0

HIGH POINT — Brody Lawson and Luke Gesell combined on a shutout as High Point Christian stopped visiting Providence Day 2-0 in the semifinals of the NCISAA 3A baseball tournament Monday at Oak View Baptist.

HPCA (27-4) moves on to play Wesleyan in the best-of-three final series. First game is Friday night at 6 at Finch Field.

Lawson gave up three hits and struck out seven over six innings. Gesell pitched the seventh in getting the save.

Curtis Dillon got the Cougars on the board in the third when he lofted a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan Hopkins. The other run came in the fourth when Hopkins laid down a squeeze bunt and his twin brother, Heath Hopkins, scampered across the plate.
