HIGH POINT — High Point Christian raced away in the middle two quarters to beat the Bellarine Storm, 75-48, in nonconference boys basketball Saturday afternoon at HPCA.KJ Garrett scored 14 points to lead the Cougars, who outscored the Storm, an Australian travel team, 43-14 over the second and third quarters to turn a four-point edge after one quarter in a 30-point advantage in the second half.

PJ Underhill added 12 points, followed by Landon Sutton and Evan Toland with nine points each.

In the girls game, HPCA rallied from a double-digit deficit in the third quarter to tie the game during the final minute on a 3-pointer from the corner by Kennedy Powell. But Bellarine hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left to beat the Cougars 46-43.

Powell finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead HPCA — which will play its next two on the road, starting at Caldwell on Tuesday, before returning home Jan. 14 against Grace Christian. Sydney Bell added seven points, 11 rebounds and four assists, while Skylar Talbert had six steals and five rebounds.
