OXFORD PREP 87,
KERR_VANCE 53
The Grif fins cruised past visiting Kerr-Vance Academy Monday evening, notching their sixth straight victory to improve to 7-1 on the season.
The Spartans (2-2) kept things close early on, but Oxford Prep went on a dominant 14-4 run to end the first quarter with a 22-12 advantage.
The Griffins really pushed the pace in the second quarter andb heavily outscored their visitors, taking a 49-27 lead into the locker room at halftime. The pace of the game slowed in the second half, but the Spartans were still unable to cut into Oxford Prep’s comfortable lead. With the game out of reach, both coaches used their bench substantially in the fourth quarter.
Spartans’ head coach Taron Downey expressed disappointment in his team’s performance Monday, particularly their lack of hustle on defense. The superior quickness of the Griffins on both ends of the court had a huge impact on the outcome, hampering the Spartans all night. Michael Bowers led Kerr-Vance with 27 points, while Wil Short recorded 12 points in the loss.
The Spartans will return to action after Thanksgiving break when they host Henderson Collegiate Tuesday evening.
