Lady Knights win fourth straight

Since losing to Wilson Christian in its season opener, Greenfield’s girls basketball team is on a roll. The Lady Knights improved to 4-1 on the season Monday night with a 52-33 win over visiting Sallie B. Howard School.
Three players scored in double figures for the Lady Knights, with Serenity McNair leading the way with 18 points, eight assists and four steals. Jeallen Holland posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Darcy Dean notched 13 points and nine rebounds. Jermia Walker led the Eagles (3-3) with 18 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Keyonna Thompson added seven points and 10 rebounds.
After a bit of a slow start offensively, the Lady Knights took control in the second quarter for a 29-16 halftime lead, and finished strong in the second half.
“We came out a little slow, and we got in a little bit of foul trouble,” said Greenfield head coach Bruce Walker. “But we got our poise together and we spread it out and started moving the ball. We missed a lot of early shots, which kept them in it. And finally, late in the second and third quarter, the shots just started finally falling for us. We were getting good open looks through our offense. ... It was a good test for us. After halftime, we kept pushing it and we got some good stops after a little run they made in the fourth quarter.”
For the Eagles, this season continues to be a learning process.
“I think it was definitely a battle of two very talented point guards in Serenity and Jermia,” said Eagles head coach Debra Pegram. “That was fun to watch, because both of them are very talented young ladies. This is our first year, and we’re just trying to start the program up. My girls are improving every day. It’s just going to take a little bit of time. But I’m very proud of the progress they have made.
Greenfield will be back in action at home Friday against Living Water Christian. Sallie B. Howard will return to play on Dec. 16 at Faith Christian.
