Knights blank Falcons in road win
NEW BERN — The Greenfield school girls soccer team stayed hot Monday afternoon, picking up its sixth win in its past seven games with a 3-0 victory at Epiphany.
The Knights (7-3-1) built a 2-0 lead at halftime and kept control from there against the Falcons (7-6-1).
“We were happy to have gotten the away result during this post-spring break week,” said Greenfield head coach Randol Mendoza via email. “This fixture was important to us as it could have seeding implications with the playoffs around the corner. The Epiphany school was well organized defensively but we were fortunate to have struck twice before halftime. That allowed us to play a bit more freely in the second half but we knew the job was far from over at that point. The goalkeeper and back line, comprised mainly of Jeallen Holland (GK), Libby Eagles, Anna Grace Beddingfield, Forbes Good, Luisa Lee and Gabby Beddingfield, did an excellent job in minimizing opportunities all 80 minutes.”
Avery Williams scored twice for the Knights, with Darcy Dean adding a goal and Juliette Suarez-Robles adding an assist.
The Knights tallied 13 shots, and Jeallen Holland notched five saves in goal for the shutout.
The Knights will host Dash at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
