Fayetteville Academy reaches state soccer finals, 5-0

HIGH POINT - Fayetteville Academy erupted for four second-half goals to defeat Caldwell Academy 5-0 on Friday in the semifinals of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2-A soccer tournament.

The Eagles, 21-0, advance to Saturday's 1 p.m. finals against the winner of Friday's second semifinal between host Westchester Country Day and Asheville Christian.

"The first half was the usual semifinal nerves,'' said Eagle coach Andrew McCarthy. "At halftime we changed a couple of things and scored two or three early.''

Bruno Lazaro got the first Eagle goal and finished with two, as did Marcos da Paz. Justin Bellamy got the fifth goal.

Fayetteville Academy will be going its 16th NCISAA state soccer title.
