ERASTO HATCHETT TAPPED AS HEAD VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL COACH
"As a standout point guard at Johnson C. Smith under the legendary Coach Stephen Joyner, Sr., Erasto Hatchett brings quite a bit of basketball experience to NCA. He began his coaching career at the collegiate level for his alma mater, serving as JCSU’s assistant coach from 2001-2004. Then, from 2004-2008, coach Hatchett became an assistant coach at Cannon School in Concord, NC from 2004-2008. While at Cannon School, Hatchett helped the team to a 47-0 conference record before assuming the role of interim head coach for the 2008-2009 season.
Coach Hatchett continued the four-year winning tradtiion at Cannon by garnering a 23-9 overall record, leading Cannon to a CISAA conference championship. Shortly after leaving Cannon School, Hatchett served as head coach at Raleigh Word of God for the 2009-2010 season, accumulating a 20-8 record. While there, he had an incredible experience coaching CJ Leslie, who would later play for the New York Knicks (2013) as well as coaching Dez Wells, who would go on to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2015).
In 2010, Coach Hatchett rejoined the collegiate ranks, becoming an assistant coach at Saint Augustine’s University through the 2013 season. Shortly after, Coach Hatchett was tapped to become the head coach for the semi-pro franchise, Cary Invasion, which is part of the Tobacco Road Basketball League, a division of the NBA. He continued in the head coach role until earlier this year. He has also recently joined Team Wall AAU, which is an AAU program sponsored by the 2010 number one draft pick, John Wall of the Washington Wizards.
Additionally, Coach Hatchett has also served stints as the head boys basketball coach at James Martin Middle School in Charlotte, as well as for the Charlotte Stars, known now as Team United, from 1999-2001. While in college, Hatchett earned Johnson C. Smith University’s rookie of the year honors for basketball, as well as becoming a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Coach Erasto Hatchett is a native of Lexington, KY who holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Johnson C. Smith University. He and his wife, Tiffany, have two daughters, Aaliyah (12) and Madison (10)."
