Oak Hill Academy (VA) 76

Providence Day (NC) 54

1Q-

At the beginning of the game, we didn’t necessarily know what to expect. We knew Oak Hill Academy (the #1 team in the nation) would come to compete, but we were very intrigued with Providence Day. Right from the start, it immediately became apparent that Chargers came to FCDS to play with the big boys. After a few clutch buckets from Tennessee commit Grant Williams in the early minutes, it looked as if this game was going to go back and fourth throughout the majority of the first, until OHA got things going offensively. PG Matt Coleman looked absolutely fantastic. He distributed the ball well, knocked down shots, and took control in a variety of ways. At the end of the first, OHA led 19-8.

2Q-

The second quarter continuously had people on the edge of their seats. Oak Hill’s blazing quick up-tempo pace created several problems for the PDS at the start of the quarter, but after just a few short minutes, the Chargers started turning things around. Devon Dotson did a phenomenal job taking control for his squad. Whenever his team needed a big time play, the sophomore G was there to deliver. But again, just like the first quarter, Oak Hill’s talent and depth seemed to be a little too much for PDS. With the likes of Mario Kegler, Devontae Shuler, and Matt Coleman running the show, it can definitely be difficult to get even the slightest advantage. At the end of the second, OHA led 36-24.

3Q-

Oak Hill Academy came out guns blazing in the second half. After shooting an astonishing 60% (6-10) from 3-point range in the first half, the Warriors continued that hot streak by knocking down an assortment of deep shots from all over the floor. OHA SG Devontae Shuler put on one a show after the halfway point for the Mouth of Wilson natives on both sides of the floor. His tight lock-down defense and freakish athleticism made him an opponent’s nightmare all quarter long. At the end of three, the Warriors led PDS 59-43.

4Q-

At the start of the fourth, Providence Day looked like a completely different team. Grant Williams literally put the team on his back. Dunk after dunk, score after score, the 6’7” hoss quickly let the people of FCDS know that he is indeed one of North Carolina’s strongest overall prospects in the 2016 class. But as the clock ticked, OHA’s lead and depth was eventually too much for PDS to overcome. When the clock finally hit zero, Oak Hill Academy ended up coming out on top, 76-64. Despite taking a tough loss this evening, Providence Day proved to us that they are definitely title competitors this year. They’re strong, experienced, and hungry to make their names known.
