Providence Day gets big win over a rival
Providence Day hadn’t played a game in 10 days before Friday’s game at Covenant Day.
The Chargers were one of three schools in the Charlotte Independent Schools conference to take a 10-day pause due to rising COVID-19 cases in Mecklenburg County, joining Charlotte Latin and Charlotte Country Day.
Providence Day practiced for the first time Wednesday and got a big win Friday night, beating Covenant Day 42-40 on the road and ending a three-game losing streak.
Junior point guard Quave Propst-Allison made a jump shot off an out-of-bounds play with less than five seconds left to give Providence Day (5-10, 1-1 CISAA) the win.
Propst-Allison had 24 points. No other Charger had more than the six scored by JoMo Byrne and Khamani Wertz.
Covenant Day point guard Aidan Holloway had 18 points for the Lions (5-7, 0-3). Covenant Day lost its third straight.
