Providence Day 77, High Point Wesleyan 71: Providence Day coach Brian Field said he can’t remember the last time the Chargers beat Wesleyan, a longtime national power. Providence Day led by as many as 13 early, but Kwe Parker (25 points) and David Caraher (14) brought Wesleyan back to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Led by Devon Dotson (22 points, 12-of-14 free throws) and Grant Williams (21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) the Chargers rallied for the win late. Josh Howard added 14 points.
“It’s a big (private school class) 3A win for us and puts us in the driver’s seat for a top 4 seed in the state tournament,” Providence Day coach Brian Field said. “We haven’t beaten them in a long, long time, and to do it in their place in front of a big crowd is good.”
