The 15th annual Serve for the Cure volleyball tournament is Saturday at Charlotte Latin.

There will be 22 teams from 11 schools participating in the event, which runs from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. It was created by retired Charlotte Latin volleyball coach and breast cancer survivor Suzie Pignetti to raise money for the advancement of research, education, screening and treatment of breast cancer.

In its 14-year history, the event has raised nearly $400,000, including $30,350 last year.

Money is raised by the players from each team through raffle ticket sales and from ticket sales and concessions on tournament day. Tournament proceeds will benefit the Susan G Komen Charlotte Affiliate and the Teresa Flippo-Morton, MD, Surgical Oncology Fund at the Levine Cancer Institute.

The eleven schools participating are Ardrey Kell High School, Charlotte Christian School, Charlotte Latin School, Covenant Day School, Crest High School, Gaston Day School, Nation Ford High School, Rock Hill Northwestern High School, Providence High School, Providence Day School, and Weddington High School.
