Carolina Day's Watson accepted into elite soccer academy
Carolina Day sophomore Will Watson took his first giant step towards playing professional soccer in the future.
The Wildcats' goalkeeper was accepted into FC Dallas Academy's US Soccer Development Academy this month after an exclusive tryout.
He plan to enroll in their academy for the 2019-20 school year. Watson was an All-Conference and All-WNC selection during the 2018 season.
“This is truly one of my biggest dreams, I have been working for this for a very long time. So these trials could possibly be the biggest opportunities in my life,” Watson said in a press release from the school.
As a member of the US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA), FC Dallas Academy prepares players to compete in professional soccer. International competition is part of the program, and teams have traveled to Bolivia, Madrid, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Spain, England, Germany, Qatar, and other countries. Since 2008, FC Dallas Academy has won four USSDA National Championships - no other club has won more than two.
Carolina Day Anthony Brenner called Watson "an incredible young man" and said he would be missed in the program.
"He leaves a lasting positive impact on everyone he meets. He is a grounded, kind, and supportive player and teammate," Brenner said. "It has been an honor and privilege to work with him. Because of Will, I’m a better coach and a better person.”
