Senior Jake Hahn had a goal and two assists to lead the Centurions to a 4-1 road victory
Jake Hahn still isn’t 100 percent healthy, but it didn’t show Tuesday.
The Coastal Christian senior tore his ACL in January and was limited during practice at the beginning of the season. In just his third start, Hahn scored a goal and added two assists to help the Centurions pick up a 4-1 nonconference victory at Wilmington Christian Academy.
“He was slow coming back,” Coastal Christian coach Mike Scheffel said. “To his credit he stuck with it and was committed to getting better. He provides us with some stability.”
Hahn connected with Walker Henderson for the first goal nine minutes into the contest. In the 48th minute, he found Matt Ward, who deposited the ball in the net far post.
The Centurions’ (11-6-1) lead grew to 3-0 when Hahn also went far post for his goal in the 53rd minute.
“It felt good. It’s like when you give to the community and it gives back,” Hahn said. “You give two assists, you get a goal.”
WCA (16-3) came right back in the 54th minute with a header from Johnny Long off a cross from Conley Burk, but the Patriots were unable finish a number of other chances. Despite the loss, WCA coach Robert Upton knows games like this only help his team improve.
“These games are invaluable,” he said. “Last year, we played Cape Fear Academy and Coastal Christian both at the beginning of the season and they handed it to us. This year, we intentionally scheduled both of them later in the season.”
Coastal Christian Junior Isaiah Brooks beat a pair of defenders and rocketed a shot into the upper left corner of the goal to finish the scoring in the 75th minute.
Now, Coastal Christian turns its attention to Friday’s home match against rival Cape Fear Academy. The Hurricanes won the first meeting 4-0 on Sept. 19.
“They did a really good job of dictating the kind of game they wanted,” Scheffel said. “On Friday, we need to be able to take what we learned from the first game and come out ready. We know it’s an important game and they’re going to come ready to play. It’s got to be not only about great effort, but also execution of the game plan.
The Patriots, who had shut out their past five opponents, return to action Friday at home against Raleigh Christian Academy.
