Charlotte Latin soccer coach Lee Horton gets 1,000th win Tuesday

Charlotte Latin’s boys soccer team beat rival Providence Day 2-1, and Latin soccer coach Lee Horton won his 1,000th game.
Horton has gotten 860 of his wins at Latin as boys and girls coach. Horton’s boys teams have won 416 games and seven state championships. His girls teams have won 444 games and 10 state championships.
Horton also has 140 wins at Greenfield School, where he coached after graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and was working towards a master’s in physical education at Campbell University. Horton has taught PE and coached soccer at Charlotte Latin since 1985.
Among the players he’s coached to state championships are his son Joshua (2006) and daughter Kristin (2010).
Charlotte Latin, currently ranked No. 8 in the N.C. 3A private school coaches poll, plays at No. 9 Charlotte Christian Thursday.
