RALEIGH, N.C. — After losing two matches last week, the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs soccer team rebounded with a 2-1 win over cross-city rival North Raleigh Christian Academy. It was a top 20 matchup in the state, per the latest HSOT NCISAA rankings.
The win was a crucial one for the Bulldogs. In addition to suffering the losses against Cary Academy and Durham Academy last week, this was the last game before Wake Christian Academy goes on fall break. It was important to Bulldogs coach/high school principal Wayne Helder that they go into the break with that positive momentum. Now, Wake Christian Academy holds a 3-2 record both overall and in conference play. The Bulldogs will have a chance to avenge their earlier loss to Durham Academy next Tuesday at home on senior night.
The Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference is very competitive. Durham Academy has done well with the exception of its game against Ravenscroft, who the Bulldogs have beaten. Cary Academy has thrived outside of its game with Durham Academy. North Raleigh Christian Academy has now lost matches to Cary Academy and Wake Christian by just a goal.
Scoring
28' - Wake Christian Academy goal by Peter Glas. Assist by Michael Diorio. Wake Christian Academy 1, North Raleigh Christian Academy 0.
32' - Wake Christian Academy goal by Michael Diorio. Wake Christian Academy 2, North Raleigh Christian Academy 0.
52' - North Raleigh Christian Academy goal by Fred Scisciani. Wake Christian Academy 2, North Raleigh Christian Academy 1.
