Varsity boys' basketball outrun Lions
Posted December 2, 2015

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The boys' varsity basketball team notched its third victory in as many chances Tuesday night as they beat Asheville Christian Academy 71-59.

The Lions brought an experienced, talented squad with plenty of size to the Griffin Dome, but the home team raced out early and seized control of the game, taking a 17-9 advantage into the 2nd quarter.

The larger Lions struggled to defend the quicker Griffins, who seemed to drive the ball at will in the first half, pushing the lead to 35-22 at the half. The Lions tried to match the Griffins athleticism in the second half and chose a smaller lineup. Despite the adjustment, they were never able to get closer than eight points, as SDS cruised to a 71-59 victory

Sophomore Zion Williamson led the charge again with 32 points on an array of drives, dunks and dazzling post moves. Fellow captain and sophomore, Kyle Tracy, had a breakout game with 17 huge points, while freshman Magic Moody added 15.

Coach Sartor commented after the game, "That was a really good win against an excellent team that will make a run at their region and state championships in North Carolina. Some of our kids grew up a little bit tonight, and we really controlled the game the whole way. Even though some guys didn't score a lot of points, everyone who got on the court made significant contributions to the win."

The Griffins record improves to 3-0. They have a quick turnaround as Anderson Christian visits the Griffin Dome on Thursday evening. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
