Singles play sinks Lady Knights at Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE — Senior Luisa Lee mustered the sole win for the Greenfield School girls tennis team in singles play Tuesday afternoon as the Lady Knights were unable to stretch 2-A Fayetteville Academy into meaningful doubles en route to a 6-3 decision.
Lee prevailed at No. 2 singles over Fayetteville Academy’s Polly Miller, and sophomore Maya Genge extended Campbell Burt into a second-set tiebreaker at No. 5. However, Genge could not force a decisive 10-point tiebreaker and battled to a 9-7 decision in the scheduled second-set tiebreaker.
Greenfield (2-3) picked up wins on two doubles courts with the match decided. Lee and junior Mae Pridgen outlasted Emily Brown-Allison Middleton at No. 2 with an 8-6 win, while sophomore Anna Grace Beddingfield and Madison Manning needed extra time to get past Fayetteville Academy’s Allie Herman-Eleanor Love 9-7.
Greenfield is back at Laura Leslie Crudup Tennis Complex on Wednesday to face Rocky Mount Academy.
