Greenfield stopped by Ridgecroft 8-1

MURFREESBORO — Ryann Jennings won her second straight singles match at the No. 4 position Tuesday, but the Greenfield School varsity girls tennis team could not provide additional points in a 8-1 nonconference loss to Ahoskie Ridgecroft on the campus of Chowan University on Tuesday afternoon.

The 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference Lady Knights (1-3), coming off a sixth-place finish in the Wilson Cup, got a 6-3, 6-4 win from Jennings over Ridgecroft’s Claire Revelle. However, Greenfield threatened no further. At No. 2 doubles, Grace Dinardo-Tara Fulghum stretched Holly Robertson-Alex Evans to an 8-4 decision.

“We did not play our best tennis today, although it was good to see Ryann continue her momentum with two straight singles wins,” Greenfield coach Robert Cunningham observed. “We are going to get after it in practice this week and hopefully get back on track.”

Greenfield remains out of conference Wednesday, traveling to Rocky Mount Academy.
