Bethel Christian clinches NCISAA 1A regular season championship

ROANOKE RAPIDS | Bethel Christian’s 0-3 start has become a distant memory.
The Trojans won their sixth straight game with a 46-16 victory over Halifax Academy Tuesday to clinch the NCISAA 1A regular season championship in the process. Javon Edwards had another big game for Bethel Christian (6-3) with 290 rushing yards on 43 carries and five touchdowns to bring his season total to 2,063.
Edwards’ three touchdowns in the first half put Bethel Christian up 22-8 midway through the second, but Halifax Academy (6-3) used a 38-yard pass play from Reid Lynch to Cameron Podruchny to get within six before intermission. From there, the Trojans outscored the Vikings 24-0 in the second half with a pair of Edwards touchdowns and one from Austin Eubanks to seal the game.
Overall, Bethel Christian allowed just 210 yards defensively and had 385 on the ground. Eubanks ran for 93 on 14 carries for the Trojans, who finish the regular season at home against Hobgood Academy.
