United Faith senior is the Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week
United Faith’s Anjay Cortez is the Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week.
Cortez, a 6-8 senior forward, had more than 4,000 votes and finished ahead of Hickory Grove’s AJ Smith and Hickory Ridge’s Jordan Marsh.
Last week, Cortez averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game as United Faith (12-12) split games with Charlotte Christian and Victory Christian.
Cortez had 15 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and four steals in a 75-64 win over Charlotte Christian Jan. 25
Cortez followed that with 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in a 69-64 loss to Victory Christian.
Cortez is being recruited by Clark Atlanta and Eastern Washington, according to United Faith basketball coach Josh Coley.
