APA defeats Harrells Christian in straight sets

.
Arendell Parrott is heading into conference play with serious momentum.
The Patriots defeated Harrells Christian 25-16, 26-24, 25-20 Tuesday, improving to 4-2 while winning their third straight contest. APA gets into EPIC play Thursday, hosting St. David’s and looking to continue its improvement in the sport.
“We’ve been preparing for this, knowing we’re coming in better than last year and have already made it happen,” APA coach Linda Bryant said. “The girls are ready to play and trying to get back to where Parrott used to be. You want to start conference play off strong and we still have inconsistencies, but as long as stay up we’ll be alright.”

The Patriots jumped out to a 13-4 advantage to start the game, but the Crusaders (2-4) fought back with a 7-1 spurt, including aces from Hannah Cole and Laura Catherine Glover. APA immediately responded with eight unanswered points, including three aces from Sydney Meyer and a Caroline Franklin kill to maintain control. HCA wouldn’t get closer than eight in the set from there.
APA had an 8-4 advantage in the second set after a Leslie Wells ace, but HCA fought back and tied the game at 10. Meyer’s kill triggered a 10-2 run for the Patriots, including two aces from Collins Fanning and a block from Ashley Hill, but the Crusaders made another run and tied the game at 24. On the next point, Franklin picked up a kill and the Patriots were able to close out the set for a 2-0 advantage.

HCA jumped out to a 5-1 lead , and while APA closed the gap to one on three occasions, the Crusaders eventually pushed the advantage to 19-14. From there, the Patriots exploded with an 11-1 run to close it out, including three aces from Isabel Faulkner.
“I was just focused on getting my serves in because it was a tight game and we fell behind,” Faulkner said.
Franklin closed out the match with a kill.
“I think communication played a big role in this game, especially in the second and third set when things started falling apart — we got it back together,” Franklin said.
