The good times continue to roll for Arendell Parrott.
After defeating Harrells Christian and Coastal Christian in straight sets Saturday, the Patriots picked up their second straight Coastal Rivers Conference tournament title and ran its record to 24-0. After receiving a bye in the CRC tournament as the top seed, Arendell Parrott dispatched No. 4 Harrells Christian 25-10, 25-14, 25-19 and No. 2 Coastal Christian 25-20, 25-10, 25-19.
The Patriots will hold the No. 1 seed in the NCISAA state playoffs and will host their first opponent Saturday.
“It’s a real boost because we can keep the momentum flowing and that’s what we want (heading into the playoffs,” Scarlet Combs said.
The matchup against Coastal Christian was even more satisfying for Arendell Parrott with the Centurions being the only team to win a set against the Patriots this season. On Sept. 28, Coastal Christian fell 25-19, 25-19, 14-25, 28-26, but didn’t take a lead in Saturday’s final.
Arendell Parrott coach David Barnes said the Patriots were completely locked in against a great team.
“They just beat (Wilmington) Hoggard three straight, a team that beat Conley three straight,” Barnes said. “They’re not an average team, but the way we played today made it look that way. There were never any questions about the game and the girls played big at the right time. We have to continue playing aggressive, make sure our hitters and servers are clicking and keep the momentum going for the state playoffs.
Gabby Carriere said the team has to continue the formula, which has worked for the team all year.
“We have to keep our intensity up,” Carriere said. “As long as we do what we’ve been doing in practice, get good sleep, go all out and not play scared, we’ll be good.”
In the two games, Alli Grant Avery led the team with 30 kills, Combs added 23 and Mackenzie pope provided 66 assists.
