Leon White has been named new head football coach at Victory Christian, Kings athletics director Michael Pratt said.
White replaces Dee Brown, who resigned in January. Brown, a former Carolina Panther, was 31-18 with the Kings and led Victory to three straight N.C. Independent Schools state championship games. Victory won state titles in 2012 and 2014. Six of Brown's seniors from the 2014 team have been offered college scholarships.
White is a longtime Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' coach. He has been defensive coordinator, linebackers' coach and defensive back coach at several area high schools, including Providence, Hopewell and Lake Norman Charter. White, a Charlotte native, also coached track at Charlotte Catholic and East Meck.
At Victory Christian, White faces a rebuilding job at a team that will be hit hard by graduation.
"We believe we have the right person to lay a foundation for rebuilding the program," Pratt said. "He has a great deal of experience with youth and coaching. We are expecting to put the right support staff in place to help bring our objectives to fruition."
